Librarians should take note of Georgia Wells’s piece on the Wall Street Journal website entitled “At San Quentin, Learning Web Coding Without the Internet.

The Incarcerated Community at San Quentin is learning to code (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) from instructors, one of which is from Hack Reactor. The students cannot use the internet to complete their coursework. The article cites Last Mile as the organization that created this program. This is a very inspiring article and it is encouraging for those that want to learn how to code.

I wonder if libraries would consider launching a partnership with non-profits and tech instructors to teach librarians and patrons how to code. This could be of benefit to the community that the library serves.
